Latvia is bordered by Estonia, Lithuania, Russia and Belarus, with its coastline of 531km laterally the Baltic Sea. Latvia has over 3 000 and 12 000 rivers, and woodlands cover over 40% of the country. As of 2012, the most important areas of Latvia’s economy were wholesale and retail trade, transport, accommodation and food services (30.0 %), industry (19.5 %) and public administration, defence, education, human health and social work activities (14.0 %). Main export partners for Latvia are Russia, Lithuania and Estonia, while main import partners are Lithuania, Germany and Russia.
